While at art school in the 1970s I painted large abstract works but since then I’ve focused my work on nudes, portraits and, more recently, still life. I am fascinated by the interplay of reflected colour, light and shade on form. I prefer to work spontaneously, using intense colours – such as orange, purple, green and blue – to capture the effects of reflected light and shade on the subject.
